Laguna Hills, Orange County
Laguna Hills incorporated in 1991 on land that had been part of the Moulton Ranch. A small park in the city preserves an outcrop of fossil reef, the remains of a shallow tropical sea that covered the area about seventeen million years ago, and the community center displays bones of prehistoric whales found nearby. The Santa Ana Mountains rise to the east across the Saddleback Valley.
